"The Scapegoat" Punishing an innocent person for the crimes of a guilty person is not Justice; it is immoral.

"Payment vs. Forgiveness" If the debt is 'paid,' it isn't 'forgiven.' Why can't the Authority just wipe the slate clean?

"Primitive Ritual" The idea of 'Blood Payment' is barbaric. An advanced Being would operate on rehabilitation, not death.

"Finite Math" How can ONE death pay for BILLIONS of crimes? The math doesn't work.
